Recognition of Courses After Horizontal and Vertical Transfer
Students admitted to the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University through horizontal or vertical transfer may be granted course exemptions and credit transfers for courses they have successfully completed at their previous higher education institutions, subject to evaluation and approval.
This process aims to recognize students’ prior academic achievements and ensure their appropriate placement within the Undergraduate Nursing Program.
When and How Should I Apply?
Students admitted to the Department of Nursing through horizontal or vertical transfer must submit their applications for the recognition of prior learning to the Dean’s Office at the time of registration. Applications submitted after the specified deadline will not be accepted.
The following documents must be submitted with the application:
An application petition specifying the courses for which exemption is requested,
An official transcript/academic record showing the courses previously completed successfully,
Course descriptions/content for the relevant courses.
If a course was taken in a language other than Turkish, an approved Turkish translation of the course content must also be submitted. Applications with incomplete, uncertified, or unverifiable documents will not be accepted.
How Will My Courses Be Evaluated?
Applications are reviewed by the Recognition of Prior Learning and Academic Adjustment Committee. Courses successfully completed at a previous institution are evaluated in terms of their learning outcomes, course content, and ECTS credits. Recognition and credit transfer procedures are carried out for courses deemed equivalent.
Following the Committee’s evaluation and the decision of the relevant Administrative Board, the courses from which the student is exempt and the student’s academic placement are finalized.
How Long Does the Process Take?
The evaluation process is completed within 15 days following the application, and the decision is communicated to the Department of Student Affairs. Until a decision is made, the student may continue attending the relevant courses.
Important
The total ECTS credits of courses recognized and transferred from prior learning may not exceed 50% of the total ECTS credits of the program in which the student is enrolled. Recognized courses are recorded on the student’s transcript and included in the calculation of the cumulative grade point average.
Students who wish to appeal the evaluation decision may apply to the relevant academic unit within 7 days of the announcement of the decision.
