Meaningful Awareness Event on World Ostomy Day

Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing – Surgical Nursing Division, in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Department of General Surgery, organized a meaningful awareness event on the occasion of World Ostomy Day, with the participation of Nursing and Medical students.
The event aimed to raise public awareness about the lives of individuals living with an ostomy, emphasizing that an ostomy is not merely a surgical procedure but also represents a new way of life. Informative presentations supported by visual materials were delivered, highlighting the importance of providing physical, psychological, and social support to individuals with ostomies.
On this meaningful day, participants shared the message: “Life with an Ostomy is Possible and Valuable.”
Faculty members from the Department of Surgical Nursing — Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülşah Köse, Asst. Prof. Dr. Cemile Çelebi, and Lect. Dr. Mehtap Çullu — together with faculty members from the Department of General Surgery — Asst. Prof. Dr. Samet Şahin and Asst. Prof. Dr. Cenk Yazgan — emphasized that such awareness activities are of great importance not only for students but also for enhancing health consciousness within society, reiterating the message: “Let’s be aware together, let’s be stronger together.”
